Rebates, Referrals and Fees

Fees & Referrals

Consultation fees depend on the type of psychological service and the length of your consult. Please contact me for more information as to what fees may apply to you. Alpine Psychology is not a bulk billing practice, however with a Mental Health Care Plan referral from your GP, you will be eligible to receive Medicare rebated appointments for up to 10 sessions per calendar year. Payments are expected at the time of appointment, and can be made by visa, mastercard or EFT.

(No referral is required unless you wish to claim on Medicare)

Medicare

Medicare benefits are available for a range of specified psychological services.

To be eligible to receive psychological services under Medicare, a person must be referred by his or her GP and in some instances by another medical specialist.

Under the Allied Health Initiative for Better Mental Health Outcomes, individuals are able to access specific psychological services and receive a Medicare rebate. This rebate is designed to allow more people within the community to access psychological assistance when in need. The initiative allows persons who are referred by their GP under a Mental Health Care Plan to claim Medicare rebates for attended appointments.

Rebates

Rebates

Although most private health funds give rebates for services by a registered psychologist, you cannot claim on both Medicare and your health fund. As health funds vary on the amounts they rebate, please contact your own fund for specific information.

Mental Health Care Plan

How do I get a referral for a mental health care plan?

If you have any worries or concerns about your mental health, including feeling depressed, anxious, stressed or you are experiencing personal difficulties, you may be eligible for a Mental Health Care Plan. This then enables you to receive Medicare rebated psychological consultations. To obtain a Mental Health Care Plan:

  1. Phone your GP and book a long appointment (an assessment for a mental health care plan takes a longer period of time).
  2. Discuss your concerns regarding your mental health with your GP and ask them to complete a Mental Health Care Plan for you (if you are eligible), to allow you to access psychological services and receive a Medicare rebate.
  3. Once you have the Mental Health Care Plan, contact Alpine Psychology to make an appointment.
  4. Remember to bring your Mental Health Care Plan with you when you attend your first appointment .
